DOIT as a learning laboratory

In the academic year 2026/27, the DOIT Centre is participating in a pilot project to implement three study courses at the University of Primorska, Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica: Innovation in Tourism (IvT), Digitalisation of Business in Tourism (DPvT), and Development of Ideas and Innovation in Tourism (RIIvT).

Students work in groups on concrete challenges in tourism, innovation, and digitalisation. With the support of the DOIT team, they will be able to transfer part of their project work to the centre environment, where they will develop, prototype, and test their ideas and solutions in practice using DOIT equipment and staff.

In IvT, the emphasis will be on the transition from understanding innovation concepts to practical experimentation; in DPvT, on the development and verification of digital solutions for real challenges faced by tourism providers; and in RIIvT, on prototyping and testing key assumptions of the developing innovation.

The centre team primarily helps students think about what makes sense to test in their idea or solution, how to design a useful test, and what the results obtained mean for further development of the solution. Depending on the needs of each project, students will also have access to the centre’s facilities, methods, and selected equipment.

The collaboration is planned as a pilot in 2026/27. Based on the experiences of students, course instructors, and the DOIT team, we will examine for which types of projects this way of working brings the greatest added value and how it can be included in other courses in future.
